SPECIAL FEATURE

Inside the Village design

We take an inside look at how a new eco-friendly 21st century community is created, and the design team tell us why this development will be like nothing Queenstown has ever seen.

Now well underway with ground works, the new Jack's Point Village is coming to life on 14.2 hectares of land alongside Lake Tewa, right in the centre of Jack’s Point. It will become the focal point for the area and its future community of over 7,000.

The new Village will be a mix of commercial space for retail, hospitality, office and visitor accommodation, together with residential living.

We are delighted Jack’s Point has been recognised for championing sustainability in golf and through golf. This year, through our Course Superintendent Simon Forshaw’s initiatives, we became GEO Environment Certified by the GEO Foundation and endorsed by the R&A and European Tour.

Spring maintenance

This month over 500 new plants, grown on-site from seeds and cuttings, are being planted on the golf course. They include flax, cabbage trees, toi-toi, manuka, matagouri and red tussock.

Our annual spring maintenance program is now underway, with full renovations to greens and tees along with de-thatching of fairways this season.

The course will be closed until Saturday, September 29 and anyone wishing to play the course in the two weeks following this renovation will play at a reduced rate. Please contact the golf shop for further details.

Rates for the 2018-19 season are $240 per person inclusive of cart and range use prior to tee off. Our very popular replay rate is $140 for the 10 days post your initial round.

New tee on 6th

Jack’s Point golf course continues to grow and develop, almost 10 years since we opened for visitor play back in November 2008. Most recently a new White and Blue tee has been established on the 6th hole to make this an even more appealing short par 4 for all golfers, not just the elite player.

Luke Leesburg joins the team

The Jack’s Point golf team has been further strengthened this season with Luke Leesburg joining John Griffin and Micah Dickinson on the PGA professional team, so more golfers living at and enjoying Jack’s Point can receive ongoing assistance with their game.

Notes from The Clubhouse kitchen

Larni Wedd, Restaurant Manager

Our favourite: The Clubhouse is serving up its ‘Feed Me’ shared breakfast, perfect for those who want both savoury and sweet.  For $30 per friend you receive three delicious courses.  Minimum of two good friends are required to order the ‘Feed Me’ menu. The Clubhouse also has Queenstown’s best Bloody Mary and delicious coffee.

Spring produce is on its way. We look forward to new season asparagus this month.  In Central Otago we have to wait longer than the rest of the country for our spring produce to come into season.

We source most of our produce from Nevis Gardens, run by a local grower, Julie Milne and her family whose gardens are in Gibbston Valley.  Another favourite producer is Te Mana High Country Lamb, sourced from Southland farms.

Fresh from the menu:

  • Spring Lamb Rump with charred onion leaves, romesco sauce and wild watercress

  • Cauliflower steak with parmesan, potato, black garlic and native spinach

To match the new season’s flavours, we also have two new beer taps featuring fresh brews from Cassels & Sons.

Jazz Sunday – October 21

Don’t miss our annual Jazz Sunday on October 21. Two internationally renowned jazz bands are performing all afternoon. Join Geoff Culverwell and his Quartet from 1pm to 3pm, and the Dan Bolton Quartet from 3pm to 5pm.

Geoff is one of New Zealand’s best-known horn players and he’s gigged at famous venues all over the world. Dan is an Australian singer-songwriter-pianist with a unique sound, honed from his years living in New York City. Expect elements of jazz, pop and Latin American style reminiscent of George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, but with a modern twist.

This event books out, so please contact the restaurant to ensure a table. Phone +64 3 450 2050 or email restaurant@jackspoint.co.nz

Property market update

Jack’s Point and queenstown lakes district

Jacks-Point-layout.jpg

As the new Village gets underway, residential sales demand and location popularity show why Jack’s Point is one of Australasia’s fastest growing communities and a compelling investment opportunity.

With over $25 million in residential section sales at Jack’s Point for the 12 months to August 2018, figures show the average purchase price from 48 sales was $464,177.

A total of 45,749m2 of residential sections were sold ranging in price from $295,000 through to $695,000, making it amongst the most affordable premium land in the Queenstown area.

Meanwhile residential home sales at Jack’s Point topped $51.8 million for the same period, with an average purchase price of $1.2 million. Home sales ranged between $825,000 and $1,850,000.

Strong demand for the location broke records in June with the sale of 22 properties for a total of $18.5 million.

With over 400 new homes now finished and a further 64 under construction, Jack’s Point is one the fastest growing communities in and around Queenstown.
