About Jacks Point
Queenstown, New Zealand

Jacks Point

Jacks Point is Queenstown’s first new resort community. Set within a 3000 acre nature preserve on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Jacks Point comprises residential neighbourhoods, a waterfront village, harbour, an 18 hole championship golf course and extensive trail system.

It is located about 15 minutes’ drive from Queenstown, and just 10 minutes from Queenstown international airport.

Jacks Point is designed to blend into the environment. The development capitalises on the breathtaking beauty of Lake Wakatipu and its majestic backdrop, The Remarkables mountain range.

Jacks Point has been planned as an inclusive community, offering a full range of living and lifestyle investment options. The village will offer a mix of retail and visitor amenities, similar to those found in central Queenstown.

The making of Jacks Point

Jacks Point, dominated by nature for millions of years and never previously inhabitated, presents a unique opportunity to create one of the world’s best living and lifestyle environments.

To achieve this vision, Jacks Point has brought together a special team of partners with the resources, expertise and experience to make Jacks Point a new model for sustainable development of a resort community and nature inspired playground.

Jacks Point’s lead developer and investor is Equity Partners Land Group Limited, an Australasian based land and infrastructure investor with over 20 years experience in large scale resort and residential projects.

Jacks Point has been master planned by Darby Partners Limited. This New Zealand-based multi-disciplinary development planning, design and project management practice has extensive national and international experience with prestigious property development and resort projects.

Intrawest, a world leader in experiential destination resorts, is partnering with Jacks Point to co-create and market the village waterfront precinct.

Fletcher Construction - New Zealand’s largest and leading construction company is partnering to build the village. Fletcher Residential, a subsidiary of Fletcher Building, is also building 200 homes adjoining the village, with the first stage now under construction.

Lifestyles New Zealand Limited, a New Zealand residential marketing company, and affiliate of Hanover Group, are marketing 300 home sites in the Highlands neighbourhood.

The Jacks Point zone was all originally part of Remarkables Station, farmed by the Jardine family for three generations. The area in and around Jacks Point is now comprised in three land holdings, Jacks Point, Henley Downs and Homestead Bay. Owners of these holdings share a common vision for the zone and are all committed to the zone’s high standards of development and environmental protection.

About the name

The high promontory at Jacks Point was named in memory of 19th century Maori local named Maori Jack. He was awarded a medal from the Royal Humane Society of Britain after saving the life of a man when they capsized in Lake Wakatipu in winter 1862. It was an extraordinary rescue, where he single-handedly flipped a boat half-full of water, dragged it back to shore in freezing cold waters and carried the man to safety before heading for help. A local dog, which had been missing for years since it was a puppy, appeared from the bush and lay on the man to keep him warm. Maori Jack was also reportedly the first person to discover gold in the Arrow River.
